What'd you do, take a steam cleaner to that bottom plate?  How did you get that so clean?

Looks great!

I like the logo card better, but the area code card comes in a close second for me because that's exactly how my grandmother's black 1954 500 looked for all the years I remember it (about 1965-1991). Originally it sat on one of those phone shelf things in her hallway, with the directory underneath. I'm sure hers must have had a BRoadway 8 card on it at one time, though, and I wish I had looked to see when I had the chance, to see if it was still behind the newer one.

Craig, your phone turned out great. I love the comment about removing your shoes. It's clean enough to eat off it.

Thanks gentleman, this one came out nearly perfect on the interior. It was not outright rusted, but it did have some spot rust starting.

I don't know what the telephone exchange would have been, is there anywhere else to check on that? I checked here, but there is nothing on this area of Michigan... I would eventually like to tag a scanned exchange card with an old family number.

We have a small museum downtown, I can probably get the information there if it is not online yet.

McHeath I took everything that was not riveted out and used a lot of Q-tips. This was another case of a pretty good candidate to begin with.

When it comes to dial cards I really got lucky. My prefix here is 7,6,3, and my last name starts with RO, which is also 7,6. So when I make dial cards with my number in them, I put....

Works perfect.

That's mighty Cool D/P.

My local exchange was originally MEL-rose and later MEl-rose.

I have sold phone stuff by check and have gotten more than 1 check (from collectors) w/ an alpha-numeric phone #.

I like every thing old I have to look just like it did when it left the factory new. Like for example me and my dad were watching a show today. And a guy was selling a 1929 Ford model A coupe. The guy bought it and got it restored, and when they brought it out it was SKY blue with LEMON yellow flames. Now in my personal opinion that is just plain tacky. I am sorry to all of you who like the chopped lowered and modified versions of cars but I feel like when you do that to a car telephone or any thing antique you are destroying a part of history.

I've always believed the exact same thing.  It's a shame when some object, be it a car, or telephone, or anything else, survives 75 years intact only to have some modern person carelessly dispose of all that irretrievable history just to suit his whims.

No offense to those who may hold other opinions. Wink
