Here is perhaps the most famous song of my wasted youth with a phone reference, it's 867-5309 Jenny from Tommy Tutone:

or the actual song at:

Up here in the high desert we have a cactus that has a very hard stiff thorn, that I've read they used at one time for record player needles. I've picked them and they do work for about 2 songs, no record damage.
Next time I'm out with my camera I take a photo of one of the cacti to show you the thorns.

That's not hard to believe, since there are wooden needles you can use on Victrolas.

Somewhere I have a small envelope of "Kacti" brand catus needles for phonographs.

There are currently three telephone related songs on my Music On Hold:

Telephone Line - Electric Light Orchestra
Don't Call Us, We'll Call You - Sugarloaf
Pennsylvania 6-5000 - Glenn Miller Orchestra

You can hear my Music On Hold if you're on the C*NET by dialing 1-798-6664.  (If you're not on the C*NET and would like to hear it, send me a private message and I'll send you an 800 number you can call.)

Telephone and Rubber Band - The Penguine Cafe Orchestra:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWZ4pve5Mkc

(The two tones used I think are "Exchange Busy" (Long-Short-Long-Short) and UK Ringing Tone)

Not much of a song about telephones, but they were used in the making of it... :D

Operator by The Grateful Dead.

Operator, can you help me, help me if you please.
Give me the right area code and the number that I need.
My rider left upon the Midnight Flyer,
Singin' like a summer breeze.

I think she's somewhere down South, down about Baton Rouge,
But I just can't remember no number, a number I can use.
Directory don't have it, central done forgot it,
I've gotta find a number to use.

Trying to check out her number, trying to run down her line.
Operator said that's priv'ledged information,
And it ain't no business of mine.
It's floodin' down in Texas, poles are out in Utah,
Gotta find a private line.

She could be hangin' 'round the steel mill,
Working in a house of blue lights.
Riding a getaway bus out of Portland, talking to the night.
I don't know where she's going, I don't care where she's been,
Long as she's doin' it right. Long as she's doin' it right.
