Thought I'd introduce myself and say how do.
« on: January 17, 2011, 10:05:22 PM »
Hello all, I thought I might introduce myself see'en I'm new to this forum. I've been collecting and restoring phones since the 1980's. My knowledge isn't always good specially on the technical things and jargon. I've been out of phones for about ten years now and I'm just gettin back into it. I was and still collect and restore antique electric fans but have slowed down a bit on that. Several of you here have already help me out quiet a bit and I do appreciate that. The world of phones like computers has gone by quickly so my knowledge is a bit out dated. With that said, this old dog still got a few new tricks up his sleeve and I hope I can at least help you all as much as you help me. Thank you for letting me be apart of this forum.

Welcome!

I was and still collect and restore antique electric fans but have slowed down a bit on that.

I believe most fans have some sort of speed control, so that's probably a wiring problem.

Welcome!  I know there's at least one or two "fan-atics" here abouts...(not me, but look in off topic area).

Welcome to the Forum!  We look forward to seeing some of your phones and reading your posts.

I may have been known to drag a fan or two home from flea markets.

Thank you all, I'm sure I'll learn a thing or two here. You all seem like you get along well and that's a plus.

Dennis, I'll see what I can do about getting some pics of my meager collection. Most were sold off years ago but, I managed to keep a few and of course I've done some shopping lately. Thank you again

Oh! if you ever need any help with one of those fans that followed you home, don't hesitate to give me a call.

Welcome, I am looking to find out "fan" info, since I wish to buy one for my office (it's done up in antique style). Any good fan sites you know about?

Also pics of your phones are always welcome :)

Yes Dan, Emerson 29646's are rather popular as well as Ge fans of many models. And both are good and reliable. If your looking for one in "restored" condition from a GOOD restorer they can get a bit pricey. On the other hand most GE's and Emerson's are fairly easy to restore if you have the right equipment.
Be CAREFUL of whom you buy from, especially on eBay. I know of some good restores if your interested. First make sure what you want and what you want it to do. Email me and maybe I can help you out.

Well, Here's some photos I just took. Some in a tent and some were there placed. Sorry for some of the poor pics, bad lighting and old camera. I do have more but there still packed away. Don't know why I bought those French style phones, might be the ivory and brass that attracts me.
Maybe some can tell me what the standard headset jack outlet located on the side of the base is for on the skinny brass one would be for. Maybe an extension?

Hmm, that would be rather odd. Have you ever seen one?
Here's a pic of it.

Welcome aboard Phoniac. I agree with Robby about a dial plugging into that jack. It must be a four conductor "phono" plug. I never knew that mine had a jack until you mentioned it, and it does too. I'm looking for saved eBay pics but no luck so far. IIRC the dial housing looked a lot like the bottom "bell" of the phone. I think this phone was made in Japan but it is fairly well made.
