One One Hit Wonder song I like is "96 Tears" by ? and the Mysterions.
I like the way it opens with the organ notes and the beat all through the song.

I've reread the entire thread & can't find this one; Brandy(You're A Fine Girl), By Jersey Shore band Looking Glass.  It went to no. 1 in 1972.  I liked it so much, I named one of my dogs after it.

Just quickly going over this topic, and I see some of the songs mentioned lack links, so I thought I would provide them....

You'll find "Brandy" on tap at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-tRXewCAmU

"Jimmy Loves Mary Anne" at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWO6f4ugZPs

"96 Tears" at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgfnCTp3p7U

Going over some of the links from the page 3:

"Those Were the Days, my Friend":

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyaTIXdN5fI

"Vehicle" by the Ides of March:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgfnCTp3p7U

"Get it From the Bottom", Steeler's Wheel:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fbHSxVhMxY

"Kind of a Drag", Buckinghams:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hq1fpN1qWv8

"Love Grows", Edison Lighthouse:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tr6H1a7YUac

Most links are there for page 2, but page 1 needs:

"Life is a Rock", Reunion:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16kh-AP4OCU

"In the Year 2525", Zager & Evans:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhNM2K8cmU8

"The Rapper", Jaggerz:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fYV3dJp-k4

"Ma Belle Ami", Tee Set:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWP_Md78mk8

"Stuck in the middle with you", Steeler's Wheel:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DohRa9lsx0Q

Just goes to prove that there aren't many songs which can't be found on You Tube, no matter how old or how popular. I will often go there to look up one song, then be stuck there forever following the songs linked on the right hand side.

Walk Away Renee. "Baroque Pop" is what I believe they called it.

Good one Dan. Every time someone mentions another song, it reminds me of others. This is one with a close connection to phone collecting.

"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz-UvQYAmbg

This was filmed on the day that my high school class visited Expo 67 in Montreal . It was filmed in front of the Ontario Pavilion with one of the many modernistic  Bell Canada/Northern Electric panel payphone kiosks at the fair in the background.

Incidentally, later in the day, I made sure to have my photo taken in front of this very booth - alas, it has long since been lost. I wish I still had it!

Anybody remember the Telephone Man song?  Sung by a girl possibly in the 70s.  I remember some of the lyrics- "Hey baby I'm your telephone man", and " You can stick it over here, you can stick it over there".

It's funny, some radio ads still use that style of ringing tone for making telephone-based ads (whatever the subject), even though it's been defunct for over 20 years... :D

Come to think of it, that ringing tone may have come from one of these:

Assuming it hadn't been switched over to electronic means...

In a bit of a departure from other songs poster here, this should bring back some memories of the  original recorded by Benjamin Earl King (Ben E. King)

This song was performed by street performers simultaneously around the world:

It's difficult to pick just one.  The first one that comes to my mind is In The Year 2525 by Zager & Evans.  I also liked The Rapper by Jaggerz, and Ma Belle Amie by the Tee Set.

Good question.  There are many great One Hit Wonders.

In the Year 2525

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhNM2K8cmU8

Dennis.....when I first heard My Belle Amie, I thought they were singing about a NBA player of that era. Walt Bellamy...try it, you'll like it....Doug

Oh my God... that makes me feel old. 2525... if there is anyone left alive.

One of my favorite one hit wonder songs is D.O.A.  by Blodrock.

Strange song, indeed.

"That thing you do" by the Oneders

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPMLG8mnCRM
Great Topic Jim!

Real hard to pick one but I think I'm with Phoniac...."The Oneders" was supposed to be "The Wonders" but everyone trying to figure out what the groups name was came up with "The Ohh Needers!" Loved the movie too.....

Terry
I know I'm very late to the party here, but I wanted to add a couple of things (I loved the movie too!)
Didja notice that the bass player had no name? He's only ever called "the bass player"; he's even in the credits as "T.B. Player". I laughed when someone said the "Oh Needers" and the lead guitar player corrected him, saying something like "No, we're The 'Oh Nedders'." Another thing that was surprising to me in such a music-heavy film was that ALL of the music in the movie were new original period-flavored compositions: "Mr. Downtown", the instrumental "Voyage Around the Moon" by Saturn 5, "My World Is Over" by Diane Dane, every one of the tunes (29 according to IMDB)!

Real One Hit Wonder this one

I loved this song when I was 11. Still do. Nice message. Think of my wife when I hear it.

I always liked those sappy love songs.

Great song, Bill.  I remember it well from the summer of 1969.  I was 14 then living in Cocoa Beach, Florida.  Just hearing it brings back a lot of memories from then....like watching Apollo 11 streak toward the moon that July.  Thanks for sharing it.
