Find of the Month - January 2012
« on: January 08, 2012, 04:09:25 PM »
Post your "Finds of the Month" for January 2012 Here.

"Finds of the Month" are items that you acquired this month that you are particulatly excited about either because of its rarity, the difficulty you had in trying to find one for your collection or the exceptional "deal" you got on it etc.

I'm going to self nominate my find for this old Western Electric Dial.  I think it's historically significant even if it wasn't sold in the USA.  I believe that this dial was developed the same time period as the AE sunburst dial.  I figure I paid about $50 for the dial after deducting off the other items included in the purchase.  Not sure of a value for the dial.

Dennis' outstanding and priced right Pekin Red Continental 202 is just an amazing find. Originall cords and the original paint in pristine condition is just a thing of beauty. I am still looking for one for my collection. I watched the auction until the end but could not convince myself that it was not a repaint with the high flash pictures. Dennis was correct and got himself a wonderful addition to his collection and a very reasonable price. The 5J just makes it a winner. These were made for a short time in the mid 50s and are not an easy find, especially in this wonderful condition. ...Doug

<edit> Here's the discussion with many more pictures of the new addition to Dennis' collection. $63 plus shipping by the way!

I realize Dan already has a part in the contest, but I'd also like to nominate his green soft plastic 554 which was $4.99 plus shipping.

I'll nominate my Gray #14 Paystation which I got for $75. I have been looking for a Model 14 at an affordable price for a very long time - over 20 years.

The lock (which was sitting loose inside the coin box without a key) is on its way back now from Jody Haralson, along with two keys, and the missing side candlestick support has been received and replaced. The lock and keys are back now, after being re-keyed by Jody, and the scarce 1909 coin collector is now complete!

Not that I am going to sell it (not a chance), but when done, it would bring an easy $500 to $700. Not bad for a $75 investment and a bit of TLC.

This is a new photo - you can see an earlier one taken earlier in the clean-up process at:

Okay, January is in the books so time to vote.

Six choices for you this month.

The only vague area I found was WDS's WECo dial. I think you got it with some other phone's. Can you come up with an approximation of what the dial itself would have cost you based on total price paid for everything?

Thanks.....Terry

I guess that's it for the January 2012 Find of the Month. It looks as though we have a first time winner this month from Eastern Canada.....way Eastern Canada.

Unfortunately as for shipping him the prize for being a Find of the Month winner, after shipping charges, Duty, and GST Dave actually owes US money rather than the other way around. But since he is a first time winner we will cut him some slack and call it even.

Congratulations Dave and keep the search going for new Finds of the Month!

Thank you! Oh! Thank you! I can hardly breathe, I feel so blessed. And this statue - it's so shiny. Oh, thank you again! I just want everyone to know that even in my wildest hallucinations, I never would have fantasized that this could ever happen. And to the other super-amazing nominees, I want each of you to know how totally sad your crushing defeat makes me feel right now!

You know, there are so many to thank! First off though, I want to thank all the members of the Academy, who looked deep within their hearts before giving me this fantastic award! Also, I want to thank Alexander Graham Bell, Elisha Gray, Almon Strowger, Frederick Gisborne and others, for being powerful forces in my life. And to those, who taught me to take life by the Bells, I thank you. And finally, to all the little people - I couldn't have done it without you  :)

Thought the "Phoneys" deserved the same sort of speech as the "Grammy's"!  ;)
Thanks, again, guys!
