Anyone Follow this Auction???
« on: January 11, 2012, 10:44:16 AM »
I was shocked this went so high. The nickel cradle is not that hard to find on these Leichs. Intercom dial card. Not even the upgraded Leich with the ringer underneath.  Seems awfully expensive at $188.....Doug

None of the bidders are familiar phone collectors nor on the ebaY Handles list.

About that dial: it was almost certainly added by the seller.  Dials of that type were recently sold on Ebay; I have one.  Those are AE but the white numerals on black background were produced by AE for the US Navy.  The card in the center is actually printed on a metal background and selects channels in an audio device (possibly civilian) rather than calling other phones.

You wouldn't ordinarily find that dial on a Leich phone, and especially not with that dial center.

The combination looks good and whoever built that one did a nice job of it.

As for the price, if someone really wanted that one and could afford to pay $188 for it, then it's all among consenting adults.  The downside of this for the rest of us is that it might cause a run-up in prices for those Leich phones.  OTOH, learn the lesson early, and scoop up some Stromberg Carlson 1243s while they're still relatively cheap.  Then do what Doug does with bare metal housings.  Then watch your friends ooh and aah and ask where they can get one:-)

Maynard, all you need to do is send AE_collector a PM (personal message) through the Forum with your email address and he can put you on the list to receive the handles list and he can send you the latest one. It's an Excel spreadsheet, so you do need Excel to open it. It does come in handy at times.
