Interesting Display Item Found!
« on: January 14, 2012, 06:53:17 AM »
I have found an interesting item for the museum's wire and cable display. These are presentation mounts by Northern Telecom from the 1980s. These sections of cable were presented to a retiring employee, inventor and signator of several important wire and cable patents for NE/NT, John Joseph Stefaniszyn of Beaconsfield and Point Claire, Quebec, and will now become part of the wire and cable display in the museum. John Joseph Stefaniszyn (son of Ignacy Stefaniszyn and Mary Unknown) was born June 21, 1924 in Naluze, Poland, married Helen Mary Kulas on November 01, 1957 and died April 01, 1986 in Montreal, three years after the presentation.

You should see the section of 100 year old submarine cable I have which originally stretched between Rockland and Northhaven/Vinalhaven Isl.,  Maine. It was hooked by a vessel laying a new submarine power cable in 2005.

This cable is a gutta percha cable, with both telephone and low voltage lines which originally went out to a lighthouse there. I received it from the owner of Marenco, the engineering company planning and supervising the installation of the new cable.

I find these fascinating!

Another item bought to me last summer was a Northern Electric wooden crate full of insulators.... Northern Electric wooden crates in good shape are pretty rare!
