ebay Fatboy
« on: February 18, 2012, 01:24:30 PM »
I finally got a Stromberg Carlson 1212WADF for my collection. I won it for the minimum bid. I was worried about in what condition I would get it since it is bakelite and it is cold here.  It did come and what a beautiful clean phone.(Almost like NOS) After removing a glued on dial center and some weird microswitch inside I corrected the wiring. I used the SC diagram from the 1942 catalog from TCI. (Thanks for being an excellent resource!)
The diagram is a bit hard to follow, but if you organize your connections and wire colors on a sort of handwritten spreadsheet it becomes clearer. Luckily all the original wiring was there.
I got it to work, but I didn'bother to wire in the bell since it was 33 1/3~ ringer(F).

Nice find. The thing I find when working on these, there isn't much room for the wires, so I need to get them just right or the something will bind.

It is definitely close and everything has to be in the right position to go back together.
I would like to find the older handset (#!5?) for this phone as pictured in the old catalog.

You mean like this one? Bought in 2007 for $5. This phone needed a new case and tons of buffing to bring to this condition. Fortunately, the handset was original to the phone.

Be careful if you plan to spend money on a different handset.  The cradles are different to accommodate the two handsets.  I believe LarryInMichigan did some experimenting with that and found the plunger/cradle is different for the later style handset.

Here's his post.........

There seems to be a handful of posts here on the Forum about the 1212 Fatboy......plug that into the search feature on the main page for more discussions.

Here's one I bought for $20 back in 2010.
