N.E. Mushroom Set???
« on: January 12, 2013, 07:10:51 AM »
Hi All:

One thing that has always bothered me, is, was there ever an NE version of the lighted Mushroom set made?

Has anyone ever seen one? Does anyone have one?

In years of collecting NE sets, I have never seen one, or a catalogue reference to one. If they didn't make one, it would be one of the very few sets they didn't make a Canadian model of. Being as the museum spotlights sets which could have been used on PEI, I would love to find one - if they existed.

I believe this set was on ebay in 2007.  Looks like it may have been converted.

Happy Hunting!

Looking closely at the bottom stamping, it appears this one was converted.

It would be helpful to find documentation -- perhaps an ad or catalog containing the 500 series from the late 1950s.

The NE T8 and T9 catalogs seem to skip over the early 500s.  Was there something in between?

Well, the problem was that when NE went to T9, they went to a loose leaf format so that the catalogues could be updated page at a time. Each time an update arrived, it came with a sheet telling people what pages to remove, and what should be added. So, the result is, a lot of historical information was lost through those updates. It could be if we were to find an un-updated T9 that we might find a reference to 500Us.

Son of a gun! I looked through some loose leaf pages I had spare from my T9 catalogue, and look what I found. My question answered, and there is/was, 500PR and 500UR-3 telephone sets! Now, if only I could find one which was affordable :)

Good eyes.

I see it's also on page 526 of the copy of the T9 catalog in the TCI Members' area.  I glanced right past that page when flipping through the file.

Now, I suppose I could cheat by getting a mushroom cap and converting one of my NE510-A s to make it look like one. Just kidding!
