J-E-L-L-O, I may be crazy - for dying phone cords
« on: June 12, 2013, 11:03:02 PM »
I got this crazy idea to use jello to dye my faded pink cord. This is my first try and I got decent results. I will change a few things next go around.
I didn't take my time, I just winged it and added some cake frosting dye to the mixture. I think I made it too pink, I will try and perfect it. It's stained for good, I tried to lighten it up a bit and it is not coming off!
Just sharing,
Mo

I bet the berry blue raspberry would work for turquoise!
Now I'm hungry.  ;D

Interesting.

Here's are two earlier threads that came to mind which you might find helpful in your project.

I saw how Dan/Panther dyed his pink cord beautifully. I wanted to try doing it "naturally" without chemicals, although jello might very well be a chemical. lol

Peroxide might bleach the color.

If it dyes plastic that easily, just think of what colour it turns your insides when you eat it!!! :D

I have heard collectors mention Rit dye for changing the colors of cords.  I've never tried it.

Who knew!  So the JELLO worked at dying the cord and it is not rubbing off on your hands?

Yes, it's dyed for good unless I use the peroxide (as Larry suggested) to lighten it. I think I went too pink. Tomorrow I may try kool aid!
