1963 Mahogany Brown 500?
« on: July 25, 2013, 06:31:24 PM »
I was watching this auction for a 1963 multi line mahogany brown 500.  I would have loved to bid but, I spend enough money on phones this month.  I waited until after the auction ended before I posted about it.  Anyways, my question is didn't they stop producing this color in the late 50's and the didn't re-introduce it until the 80's?  Beautiful phone and I hope it went to a forum member who will post lots of photos!

WE discontinued brown (-54) 500s in 1957 but continued making brown multi-line sets until sometime in the 1960s. Brown (-104) and Rust were new Trimline colors.

I doubt that they ever made a brown 564 with square buttons, and upon closer inspection, the seller agreed that this was a later modification to his set. The dial on this set is marked 7D-3 with a 12-63 date. So they took a black dial and added the brown number plate and Lucite finger wheel.

Also, when were square buttons and amphenol plugs standardized? They may coincide with the introduction of the Touch-Tone 1564 and 1565.
