I bought this off a localish (Holden MA) seller for $142.  It is in pretty decent shape overall with both sides intact.  It is an old one, probably from the 1910s, and it is small, 12"x11".  Another example in Ron Knappen's book is from MA as well, so I am wondering if this was a N.E.T. & T. sign.  They are probably the most prolific when it comes to putting their names on their signs but they could have used generic ones as well.  This type of sign is much more common with the 1921 bell.

The sign arrived today and cleaned up really nicely.  There is some warping, like most flange signs, but not serious.  The rust is mostly on the bottom edge and on the flange, so the graphics are excellent after removing some paint specks, old tag residue and gunk.  The colors are uniform and the detail is crisp on both sides.  I'll take some pics in the daylight.  I am also starting to appreciate these 11" x 11" signs, a lot easier to hide them from the wife than the 16"x18".

Very nice sign, Greg!

I'm so glad that it arrived safe, and intact. I've resigned myself to hunting for a repro, until someday when my pockets are deeper. Hmmm, maybe when I grow up... ;) Enjoy your rare treasure! 8)

Best regards!

Nice sign Greg. I believe it's a Bell Telephone of Canada sign. They used the LL&D bell for a long time. When AT&T changed to the 1921 logo BTC kept using the LL&D Bell. This sign is also seen with the wording reversed: Telephone on top and Public on the bottom. See:

That would make sense.  I was looking at it today and thinking that it seemed a newer than the other 08' bells I have.

I decided to part with this one, it doesn't really fit into my collection of early New England Telephone/Bell System stuff.  Wall space is getting scarce in the phone room.
