How do I go about restoring a WE 500 Housing?

I've had good luck with Novus Plastic Polish.
Comes in 3 stages including spray cleaner although you can buy them separately, most of the time for fine scratches or marks I just use the finest grit (#2) and the cleaner (#1) afterwords.

Take the housing off of the phone, soak it in warm water with a mild soap (I use Simple Green) for 15 to 30 minutes, rub it clean with a soapy, soft sponge, rinse it and dry it off with a soft cotton towel.

The handset has to be taken apart before soaking the handle and two caps (remove the 2 elements, the transmitter cup and the handset cord).

You must clean off all surface dirt before you apply any type of plastic polish.

After drying, let the parts sit for a day to air dry and then use Novus plastic polish as noted above.

I concur with RDPipes and TelePlay.  Novus 2 followed by Novus 1 works very well on light scratches and blemishes.  Novus 1 claims to be dust repellent, and I believe this is true.  I have had Novus 1 treated phones uncovered on my display shelves for several years, and they have accumulated very little dust.  A little bit of dust is visible on the darker phones upon examination with a high intensity light, but nothing major.

Shop around for Novus products.  The price can vary considerably depending on where you buy it.

If the scratches on it are deep, use #600 sandpaper on the scratches, followed by #1200 sandpaper.  You can then use Novus #3, or skip right to Novus #2.  I usually use a power buffer (unsewn wheels) with plastic polishing compound between the sandpaper and the Novus #2. (If the scratches are really deep, I start with #320 sandpaper).
