Bought this very early Style D-C candlestick off of Ebay last week.  I could see right off that something was different about this one compared to the other SC candlesticks I have.  First its about a 1/2" shorter than the later model 1168, most of the difference in the shaft.   The receiver arm is solid, with no seams like the later model.  The most obvious difference is the base and switch.  Also, the hole in the base for the cords is threaded, so I assume there should have been a bakelite grommet in there.  The paint is in great shape.   I've never seen one like this before, so this is another good one from my collection.  Would like to know how long the D-C was in production before it was replaced with the 1168.

Something else I just noticed, is none of my SC receivers fit this phone.  They all hit the base.  The original receiver for this phone must have been at least a 1/2" shorter than the other models.  Even the really old No.3 receiver is too long.

Also, the 1905 Catalog refers to this D-C style candlestick to be an improvement over the previous version, but similar in style.  Does anyone know what preceded this candlestick?

I spoke to Walt and a gentleman named Scotty and figured out the model before the D-C was the Kansas City model.  So it goes Kansas City, or Style ID, Style D-C, 986 then 1168 and 1150 (dial version).

I was able to measure the shaft height from another D-C style c/s, and it exactly matches mine, so I'm pretty convinced that the D-C was shorter than the later 986.  4 1/4" between the bottom of the nickel perch, and the ring on the bottom.

Another interesting fact.  I disassembled a 968 and a D-C, and non of the parts are interchangeable.  The perch parts looked like they might interchange, but the dimensions are different.  Here's a comparison of the receiver arms and the push rods.

It took a while, but I finally found the correct receiver for the D-C.  Marked Stromberg-Carlson, and short enough to properly fit without hitting the base.  The difference in the height is the shape of the shell at the top, and the cap which is flat, which lets the receiver sit about a 1/2" higher than the other S-C receivers.
