I have Panasonic kx-dt816 and 7431 phone. The manual said that it is possible to change extention number. I am trying to change extention from 101 to 4455 with no luck. I follow programming manual. Like push 'program', then *#1234, then 003. It shows extention 101 and allow me to enter 4455 but it always erroring out when i am trying to save. Any advice appreciate...

From page 84 of the USER manual linked above:

However, you may have to refer to the PROGRAMMING manual (page 53?) to change the default "1" or "2" or "none" leading numbers for extensions -- otherwise, all extensions have to begin with 1 or 2.

Also, you would have to change any feature codes that conflict with the extension numbers you want to use; for example, 41 is the code for directed call pickup, so you can't assign 41xx (like 4156) as an extension number, unless you change or clear the directed call pickup code.

Thank you very much guys! I end up setting up lead numbers for extentions and then i was able to set extentions numbers as i want. I would say it is not easiest neither intuitive compare to some ohher PBXs...
