Leich handset id and source for missing parts
« on: May 17, 2021, 09:28:38 PM »
I bought this handset because, well... it just looked cool, and it matched another one I have.
I want to know what model, and what used on.
Also, it has no inside parts for the handset, and no receiver

Those elements look wrong for that handset. The rec is a brass assy with a diaphram and the tx is also brass. both have screws to connect them . The tx will not work well.

Is that a Western Electric E1 handset?

I don't know the model name but that looks like the correct Leich handset for that phone.
The receiver should be as per my photos (has a diaphragm). Unfortunately my one also had the transmitter missing so I don't know what that is like.

It's a Leich 1-type handset.

Roger Conklin wrote several articles for Singing Wires in 2008 -- mentioning the handsets and Leich telephones from the late 1930s and 1940s.

Here are some quick photos...

Tubaman, could you measure the resistance of that receiver please?
Doug, I have a few Leich 901's with the newer handset.
I like the type 1 better!!!
Paul, Thanks for the pics.
I have a handle on it now. :)
