Title: Hello from ON, Canada
Post by: ffman on January 06, 2021, 12:34:27 AM
Hi everyone, new member from Ontario, Canada here. I originally wanted to join this forum because I had gotten a box of Northern Electric 500s from a friend and I wanted to know more information about their history and repairability. While waiting for approval I found a lot helpful information on this site that not only answered these questions but got me thinking about ways I could incorporate rotary phones into my everyday life. Using some  forum recommended ATAs and an Asterisk server, I've been able to create a richly featured pbx implementation that sees daily use and has brought new life into these old phones. This revival has furthered my interest in rotary phones and I have spent countless hours browsing my local classifieds for good deals on unique models. As it stands my collection is pretty bare (with a red WE 500 and the aforementioned NE 500s) but I would love to add some more diverse pieces as time goes on. I would also love to incorporate these phones into my home automation system somehow but as it stands I have my hands full with many other projects. Thank you for graciously accepting me into the forum, I am excited to learn and grown in the hobby.

Welcome!
Get out now! Phoneitis will set in quick. You may already have it. Everyone here is infected. You are already thinking about adding more phones. Soon you will be looking for every color or every model. Perhaps some tools or maybe a complete CO switching system. Just take a look at members collection photos, you will see how far it will progress.
Seriously, you have found the best forum on the net. Lots of friendly, knowledgeable folks who love to help. Enjoy!

I second that, it is a wonderful collection. Set up perfectly.

I especially like the Northern Clock. Does it work?

I always love taking a virtual tour of your collection....other Doug
