I would keep it the way it is already and just polish it.
I followed Grayson's advice, I just polished with a 400 B wet sand using Avon Skin so Soft for the wet and was very happy the way it turned it. It is for me and not for sale so I am satisfied....Doug

Janet and I have been watching the Crown and in Season 3 Princess Anne is talking to Charles on one of these.

It is sitting flat on a desk and she uses the clear bar as a handle and moves the phone around the room with it.

I thought this was a wall phone, but I have had a tough time always knocking the handset off.

Is this a desk phone???....thanks...Doug

This is a desk phone, they were often carried (as far as the line cord would reach) as you describe.

There was an adaptor to turn these into a wall phone 'Kit 422A' but they weren't very popular and as such are extremely hard to find.
