Yes it is Oak, used Dark Walnut. I figured it will fade a little and lighten up.

Will use a coat of Howard's Wax.

They make a Golden Oak too, I use that on my oak phones that have a light finish.  On oak phones with a dark finish I add Mahogany and Dark Walnut to the Golden Oak, it is a better match to the original.  On walnut phones I just use Dark Walnut if it is stripped, and Dark Walnut with a little Mahogany if it is not.  It all depends upon the finish, age and what you want to achieve.

One thing about using Restor a Finish on oak is that it can make the stripes shine sometimes.  A light coat of shellac helps even it out.  I assume wax would serve the same purpose.  I would give it a week to fully dry before trying anything.
