Found this western electric A1 on facebook marketplace for $40. The handset is marked D80370 instead of E1 which is unusual. Very nice condition overall

Could you add a photo showing the writing to handset?

D80370 is the correct handset for the A1 mounting. Originally had D80310 receiver and D85175 transmitter. Later handles are marked E1, but still did not have a capacitor installed on the back  of the 395A transmitter unit. These complete handsets are coded E1A handsets. The capacitor was included  inside  the A1 mounting.

E1B handset was the first one with the capacitor on the back of the 395B transmitter.

Superceded by the E1E with 625A transmitter in 1934 or 1935. 625A transmitter contains an F1 transmitter unit.

Please provide more photos: back of receiver, side and back of transmitter (date and part number), and part number on cords (if any). Also, is there a capacitor in the base?
