I think that many sellers see "Western Electric" (or "Stromberg Carlson", Kellogg, etc.) on the handset, and not knowing anything about the phone, assume that it was all made by whoever's name they see.  The same is the case for sellers who advertise 302s as "F1 telephone"s or 20ALs as "323"s.

I know a lot more than I did before I was introduced to this forum and if something was marked WE on the handset I would think the whole thing was WE. But, unlike the Ebay sellers who know nothing about what they are selling (or do and playing dumb), I would research it and find out everything I could about it. And, shame on those who buy it without checking it out too! Now-a-days it's easy to click your mouse and find everything there is to know about something. They get a D for not doing their homework! The Seller as well as the Buyer.
