Quote....My current software projects include: disassembling Doki Doki Panic for the Famicom Disk System, disassembling a set of UNIX Version 2 binaries available on The UNIX Heritage Society, and performing a diff analysis of incremental versions of the UNIX Programmer's Manual to document flow of ideas between different Bell System branches (as well as UCB's BSD UNIX.)  The UNIX stuff has had a particular 3B20-flavored undercurrent lately, trying to run down details on both 5ESS and the standalone 3B20S computers.

Growing up one of my friends dads was an SGI/IRIX dealer so that was my brief into to UNIX. Have you hooked up all your phones to your KSU?

I haven't yet, it's still in transit, but once it gets here I intend to start experimenting with it.  I don't have any specific 1A2 phones yet, but I can at least test regular ones with it.  I intend to figure enough of it out to use it for a noise music performance a couple weeks into November, but we'll see.  Part of me wants to setup a home network with it after that but in an easy removable way so that way I can still take the unit places for music stuff and other such demos.  I've been doing some informal telephone demos as part of some open mic offerings lately, it'd be cool to integrate the KSU into that.  I'm also just excited to have one of the power plants that are in those things.  I see them pop up alone on eBay time to time, have almost gotten one, now I'm glad I didn't to keep redundancy down.

Nice!
Most older 'regular' phones can work with a KSU, they used the Line 2 (yellow, black leads) as the A leads.

Yeah I was seeing that there are terminals for standard phones in the KSU, I actually only have one key telephone (2565HKM) right now so I'll largely be playing with it with standard phones until I can track down another key.  I'm being pretty picky though, if I can I want to try and get a Call Director.  There was an NE one on eBay recently but bid-based so of course I wasn't paying attention to actually nab it.  The horror story I'm dealing with right now though is each time I've spotted one I kinda like, no cord, someone chopped the poor thing clean off, which it sounds like is a pretty common story.  I suppose I could get an Amphenol after market and just wire one myself if the ideal phone comes up, but it has been a kinda disheartening cycle of hey, I see keys.....and no cable, okay next one, hey I see keys....and no cable...next...plus that's a lot of lines to keep straight vs tossing a new modular jack on a 500...

Is it just me or does this thread appear to be confusing to others as well?

The subject is purported to concern UNIX but it is mostly discussing totally unrelated 1A2 key systems instead.

To keep it somewhat on track, earlier this summer, a friend cleared out the estate of his aunt and uncle. His uncle was a Bell Labs engineer that helped develop UNIX.

From my friend's description, the entire house, from basement to attic, was filled with related research material that include documentation for his arguments to use it for programming ESS switches. I believe he donated much of it to a university.

This thread was split off by a moderator from segaloco's "A Little Late But Intros" thread in New Member Introductions. I think it was a mistake, since (as you note) only the first reply's brief comment had anything to do with UNIX.

I think this thread was split off to keep a discussion of usage apart from personal information offered by a member about themselves in the "New Member Introduction" board.

The specific content of the above discussion is tangential to a introductory topic. The title has been changed to encompass UNIX and 1A2 systems.
