Re phones being factory made for left handed writers (HSA to right) I personally doubt it. Always possible a special could have been made but I consider it highly unlikely.

I remember hearing many a story from then youngsters being at school and having their knuckles severely whacked with a ruler should they pick up a pen with their left hand. Teaching was incredibly strict back then, left handed writing was never tolerated. Plus every single old photo I have ever seen which show rows of Candlestick phones, they are always hook switch arm to left.

They aren't difficult to swap to the 'other side', for whatever reason, and I believe any we find nowadays to have been changed over later in their existence.

Below one of my favourite photos (STC), showing rows of Candlesticks. Looks to be in the packaging dept, being made ready for dispatch.

I was never curious enough to wander around when I worked there. How I now wish I had.

Wow!!!
That is almost as big as Doug's collection. lol ;)

I got another Left handed Kellogg stick from fellow member Dave,  WDS2185 on eBay. The base was backwards with the hole in the front.

I removed the lock lug (what a pain!) and turned the base around. Hookswitch arm remained on the right.

I need to find my box with a Kellogg receiver, MP, Bakelite sleeve and bottom plate.

This shined up well with minimum effort

I know there was some debate on the left handed sticks, but this sure looks correct....Doug

Would you add a couple of photos of the phone with the baseplate removed, looking up inside.

And anyone else with this model - hook switch arm to left (or right) - would you be kind enough to do the same.

Hopefully we can do a comparison and see if there is any manufacturing mystery to be solved.

Thanks, could you add a second photo now you have done the turn around.

Just thinking out loud here, as don't have one of these to take a closer look (nice phones, hopefully one will be added to the collection), but is there any chance the head was on back to front as opposed to the base.

The base looks like it was just maybe a tad out of adjustment, so possibly the phone had been taken apart a while ago by a previous owner.

Would you add the auction number/link so we can take a closer look at the auction photos.

That's cleaned up really nicely. I'm not sure if they were ever made in left-handed form as back then it just wasn't the done thing. Unless there is a period catalogue showing one I doubt we'll ever know.

I knew I forgot something!

New pic with it turned.

I am not sure how to remove the perch as is is totally different from a Western.

This is the third Kellogg I have with the HKS on the right. No other maker, only Kellogg...Doug
