Greetings Folks:

I am happy to have the opportunity to join you on Classic Rotary Phones Forum. Other than a user of rotary phones my big brush with rotary phones came in the U.S. Air Force. I was trained and assigned to what the AF called Telephone Outside Plant. We took care of everything phone related from buried and aerial cables to single line through multiline business phone systems. My time in the phone world was from 1972 to 1976. We worked closely with the Inside Plant section that was basically Central Office and the switching center. My first I arrived with a couple of other new folks all military and we were assigned for about two weeks to clean used phones, polish them and test and make any repairs needed, then box and store them for reinstallation. There was everything from single line desk and wall phones to, multiple one phones, business key phones and multiple line call directories. In two weeks I imagine I handled hundreds of phones and got real familiar with the wonder of Ma Bell's foundation. We also stripped wire from used 66 terminals and disassembled many old key systems for redeployment. It was a good introduction. In that time we got over to base supply to be assigned a big tool kit of everything a telephone installer and trouble shooter would need. Everything was new and they were either Bell System or Klein tools. Ready to go. Over my time in the Air Force I did everything imaginable in regard to phone installations. It was a great time. I hope that I will be able to contribute to discussions on the group.
