There has been several years phase out going and now there is final date for last remaining landlines. Translated news from local news paper:

Technology that has served since the 19th century is coming to an end this week

The landline network that has served Finns since the 19th century will be history at the end of June, when telecommunications operator Elisa will discontinue landline connections. The end of the service affects private and corporate customers.

– Currently, Elisa customers only have a few thousand landline connections, and the number is decreasing all the time. Landline connections have been used in landline telephones, fax machines, switchboards and elevator phones, among other things. "New subscriptions have not been sold for years," says Ilkka Pohtola, Elisa's business director responsible for consumer subscriptions.

Business customers will receive a press release in January informing them of the change. The company will inform private customers at the end of April. Elisa says that you can keep your landline number even if your subscription ceases to exist, as there are services available to which the number can be linked.

Competitor DNA is doing the same. Its last landline telephone exchange in Lahti will be closed on Wednesday, January 21. DNA ended its landline telephone services in 2025.

The telephone company operations of DNA's historical predecessors, namely Lahti, Oulu, Pori, Kuopio, Lohja and Lännen Puhelinten, began in 1882–1906, when operations were created on copper networks, i.e. telephone wires.

Telia discontinued its own landline telephone network in 2019.

This is how the landline telephone network shutdown is progressing

-Spring 2026 landline subscriptions will continue to operate as before until 2026.
-Business customers will be contacted starting in January.
-Consumer customers will receive a more detailed customer letter to change their subscription and phone at the end of April.

The landline network will cease to operate on June 30, 2026.

I suppose the subscriptions will be converted into a VOIP service?

Vesa

Voip is not commonly use in here Finland. Conversion will be to mobile networks. Mobile phone plans are here ultra cheap, my Asterisk GSM/LTE gateway plan costs around 0.50 eur/month. Unlimited data and voice is around 10-30eur/month. Mobile network coverage is 100%, only exception is some rural areas on Lapland area. This is something to do with Nokia -comppany..

Does that mean you will be forced to switch to cell phones, whether you like it or not!

dsk

That is what happend in Norway several years ago.  I tried voip, but the charged us so much, so my only Norwegian number is the cellphone.

Calling vi Sipbroker to my VOIP at Callcentric works OK.   Calling out to Norwegian numbers from Callcentric is reasonable. :-)

So "Landline" in any form is dead  :(
Here in Germany, an internet subscription be it via fiber optics or DSL will usually include a VOIP plan of some sort. The use for private communication is rapidly decreasing no matter of that. You will call on the mobile device, but more likely you will be texting.
Even offices, doctors, businesses more and more discourage customers to call them but use apps to make appointments, or contact forms for other messages.
