Hi..I recently bought a Western Electric railroad candlestick phone. It had a reproduction handset cord so I was going to replace it with an old one. I discovered that the handset cord and line cord was not hooked up at all and I would like to hook it up correctly. I cannot find a wiring diagram for this particular phone and wondering if someone here does. The top neck where the transmitter connects says 40 F. Hopefully that part is correct to the phone. The terminals are 1, 2, 3 & 4. Thanks

Sorry no one replied to this before now. I checked and the #40-F transmitter arm is listed on page 111 (PDF page 128) in the c. 1907 Western Electric catalog available here, along with the 40-B and 40-D. The letter suffix denotes the type of mounting (B for wall, D for side of a roll-top desk, and F for top of flat-top desk). All are listed as "for regular local battery bridging or central battery service", so no different electrically from an ordinary uninsulated 20-series desk stand of the time. I also found the attached wiring diagram in this compilation by Steve Hilsz.
