I picked up this Hammond clock today. Dummy me plugged it in and kapok! The dried up cord shorted. I like the old spin to start clocks.

That's a shame that was a nice clock to have in a collection.
When I seen the cord and a light burn mark I was hoping no one had plugged it in
and it just looked like it was shorted out. Live and learn.

If a new power cord were installed, it would still work, wouldn't it?

I can't think why the shorted cord will have damaged anything else, so it is was going to work it should still do so with a new cord.

I have many Hammond clocks, including that model.  The cord can be replaced, but it is a bit of a project because it is wired straight into the field coil.  The outer cover of the coil needs to be carefully cut and a new cord soldered to the ends of the coil.

The shorting of the cord will not have damaged anything in the clock.
