Two full days now. Looks like everything is okay with the new battery. I'm going to test it again without battery. But I realized I introduced a new variable. When I plugged this thing back in with the new battery, I moved it to a different location, so it's plugged in a different power strip. I hadn't considered the power strip being the issue because I had replaced the PBX with a working KX-TA824, and that unit has no issues with the power strip. I moved the KX-61610 to a different location for troubleshooting. In any case, there is still a chance that, for whatever reason, the 61610, just didn't like the other power strip. If it functions fine, even without battery, then it was the power strip all along. I'll know soon enough.

It's been a full 24 hours with the old battery plugged in. LOL! This may have been a power strip issue from the beginning. Do you guys find that interesting? That my KX-TA824 is doing fine with a power strip that kept causing the KX-61610's amber light to go out?

I have some old power strips that over time the outlets have loosened up and I have to be careful which outlet
on the stripe I plug into because some are so loose if I exhale to loudly it'll loose connection......so yes.

Yes, I think we're all have at least one power strip with a taped off outlet.

As for the 616, the installation manual states the following, #3 seems to address your "intermittent" shut down issue. Seems the 616 likes a private, clean power supply, its own outlet on its own breaker, not a power strip.

Since your trying to reproduce the issue with the day LED you could try using a 2-prong to 3-prong adapter for 24 hours, the kind people used before all outlets were 3-prong. That would open the round earth ground pin making the unit ungrounded.
That would be interesting if thats the issue.
