For 212A owners that want computer to control the 300 or 1200 baud mode:
the sheets are missing SW2 9 for the interface option.

Since will not be using a metal bracket, I will design a 3D endcap that will help support the circuit board and  a look like the original Western Electric.

Making some progress in modeling the cases used for the 70's dataphone gear.
The end caps were all clear plastic that was labeled and painted black from the inside.
The front and back caps were all the same with some modifications for button or connector openings.

Once the base design is compete, there is only a handful of variants.

Nice progress!
I found this video on youtube that I think explains old WE data-phone's like yours:

So far, fits like a glove.

Being able to see inside helps in planning the next steps.

In my research, there were 4 front caps and 2 rear caps variants.
The caps were clear plastic with labeling and black painting done from the inside.
My plan is to have openings for the switches and LEDs made into the plastic.  A translucent sticker with silver vinyl lettering to decorate the units similar to the original.

Designing the adapter card mount.
It holds the dataphone circuit card and interface edge card in place.

The block is cut (Boolean subtract) to get precise shapes. A decal will be the test fit for the endcap.

rcourtney

Progress on the interface mount.

Mounting bracket to be 3D printed.

The two holes in the base are for threaded brass inserts
to secure the assembly to the extruded case.

In another chat, someone asked why am I doing all this hard work?

Ha, because it is very cold io the winter here so a stimulating project to keep my mind active is necessary!

I still needed the RS232 device to control the Hi 1200/Low 300 modem speed.
Dialing, I needed RS366 to use the Old Bell System ACU.

I am on VoIP, so I could have written a program to send a SIP INVITE message to my provider, but that is NO FUN!

I'd love to see that in operation makes me want to go.
You could also bring it to that Lancaster PA phone show, or the VCF in Seattle in May.
