634A subset form factor question

What is the purpose, or use, of the small hole in the upper hinged side of a 634A subset cover?

Can be seen here in the metal cover to the right of the 101A induction coil.

Yeah, I use it for the cord to the set also. I don't know if that is what it was intended for.

That's what I thought for sticks and D1s having seen images with cloth cords through the hole and a restraint holding it to the terminal strip.

But, what if the subset is being used with a WE 41A (211 space saver) set up using 4 conductor station wire in the wall to connect the 2 units?

Station wire is a bit stiff to use that hole as it's entrance point?
