Seashell Pay Phone Enclosure

I finished restoration on my seashell telephone enclosure.

I picked it up from a local Craigslist ad about a year ago.

It was in pretty rough shape.  It had previously been recessed into a wall, so it had holes drilled around the perimeter and a thick run of caulk around it.  I removed the caulk, patched the holes and had to paint it to cover the repairs and other damage.

The ballasts looked like they had either overheated or had water damage or both, so I put in ballast-bypass LED conversion tubes, but left the starter sockets in place so it could be reversible.  I also added a switch for the lights.  I mounted a green three-slot wired for free calls.

Not as good a deal as Kleenax got in this thread:

This brings back memories!  I remember seeing one of these in a restaurant many years ago.  I think it was a seafood restaurant.  I do not remember the backlighting; maybe it was there, but burned out, or maybe I just don't remember it.

I am adding some pictures that are better able to show the multicolor filters that are in front of the fluorescent lamps.

I am also adding a photo of the label that shows the maker as Gladwin Plastics of Atlanta, Georgia.  The date is torn off.  They have a 5 digit ZIP code, so it is probably 1964 or newer.

What a great phone booth for a pay phone in a sea food restaurant!  I like it!

Nice work SUnset 2. A shell phone enclosure for a seafood restaurant seems very fitting.
