Hello~
My phone quit ringing for no reason. I contacted Voiply and there system is working.

I get a dial tone, can call out, just can't receive calls because there's no ringer.

Please tell me it's an easy fix :)

thank you...nancy

Was it working before with this provider? A lot of VIOP providers do not supply enough ring voltage.

EDIT: Sorry, I meant the equipment the phone  connects through, ATA or whatever you use, as has already been pointed out.
Still the same question, did it work before?

Harry - The ring voltage is generated by the ATA not the VOIP provider. Either that ringer or the high voltage generator in the ATA crapped out Might also check the preferences set for the ATA. They sometimes loose the programming.

How many ringers are connected to your ATA?  My Ooma Telo ATA only puts out enough ringer current to ring at most two ringers.  On many of my older and non-North American phones, I had to add resistors in series with the ringers to limit the amount of current drawn, otherwise the ringers do not ring.

what's an ATA? If it's the box between the wifi and phone, it's exclusive to the phone.

If the ringer pooped out can I purchase a new one? Is it the red battery looking thing in the photo?

thanks...nancy

Here is a C4A ringer currently on eBay.

There are others available from other sellers and sources if you need one.

This is posted as an exemplar for you to learn about the ringer.

This is an older one made of metal, not a newer plastic one as installed in your phone (older metal ringers where of better quality).

Do you have a digital volt meter so you can check the continuity of the coil on your ringer?

Hi Nancy. Back to my original question, did the ringer work before on this system? Can you post pictures of the equipment it is connected to?

Never an issue for previous 5 years. There's a dial tone and I can call out with no problem.

I'm not very tech savvy, 75 yr old women...need any recipes LOL

I am not familiar with that device. If it was working before and you did not change anything maybe they did. I would call the provider and ask if they made any changes or updates that would cause it to stop working.

They checked and found all was working properly, there's no problem on their end.

Can you take your phone to another place, someone else's home, that has a telephone line and try your phone on that line to see if it works, if it rings or not?

hinw

Hmmm...I'm the only one I know with a landline :-[

If call the phone while the shell is off of it (and the switch held down), can you see or feel the ringer armature trying to move at all?  It is possible that a ringer coil is open, a component in the ATA has failed (the service provider would not know about that), or something is physically preventing the ringer armature from moving properly.  Can you obtain an ohmmeter to measure the resistance across the ringer coils?

Does your house have grounded ringing?  And if so, is the black ringer wire on the GRND terminal?  It is possible that work was done on the line and was put back together opposite the way it was.  With only a 2 wire setup, it doesn't make a difference, but if you have grounded ringing, changing the polarity will result in a no-ring condition due to the fact that the red line wire will be the one grounded at the central office, which makes both the black ringer wire and the red ringer wire terminated at a Ground.  Try swapping the red and green line wires - L1 and L2 on the network, and see if it rings that way.
