I just bought this off eBay and I'm testing old phones I've discovered a problem I hope someone can help me with. When I try to get my 1940s Western Electric desk phone to ring or to test the dial it doesn't work. I can plug in newer phones like my 1970s rotary dial phone and it works like it should.
On the 1940s phone, when I hit the button on the tester to send a ring, the light blinks but the phone doesn't ring. If I pick up the receiver I can hear it trying to ring. When I use my Xlink BT, the phone rings just fine so I know it's not the phone.
When I try to test the rotary dial, it doesn't show up any numbers at all.
Is this about the voltage being sent to the phone? And is there anything I can do to get it to work? Or do I need a different tester like maybe the 1450B?

Attaching pictures of the phone's internal wiring in a reply would help, dial and base.

I am not sure about how your 1450 is, but I do have a BK Precision 1050 and did make a cord with a jack of Norwegian standard and then it works well. I do have a pot.meter to adjust the ringing voltage, and some phones need more than others. Do you have a similar potmeter on yours?
Reading digits works to well, mine BK Precision is accsepting dial speed sup to 20 pps, but not to slow dials.
