I bought this 684 subset on line. But what type of ringer is this?

It's a 39A spiral wire (cathedral) gong.
Used when a distinctive ringing signal is needed.

A good find, those aren't very common.

Wow, great find.  I see these on E-Bay are very now and then, but the prices are always too rich for my blood.  These, and those with Cow Bells are for those who need a distinctive ring, such as when one line or lines are regular phone lines and another one is an inter-office line or an intercom.
