Don't know, but if they do, I would definitely go, being a "Murdoch Mysteries" fan and vintage phone addict.

I've started watching Murdock Mysteries on Netflix. I'm up to season 1,  episode 10. Very good show. The cast performs their roles well with Jonny Harris as Constable Crabtree my favorite.  Though it seems Yannick Bisson  (Murdock) is a bit stiff in his role?

Question for our Canadian members. Why is the United Kingdom Union Flag shown in all the locations and not the Canadian flag used 1868 - 1921?

I've never seen that show.  Though my tax dollars subsidize the CBC, they decided to pull the plug on my local transmitter to fund conversion to digital in the big cities.  Their excuse is that because many rural residents have satellite only 6% of the population is affected by all of the transmitters they shut down.  I emailed the PM but he never got back to me.  Anyway, sorry for the rant, now to answer your question.

The 'Red Ensign', though widely used, did not become an official flag in Canada until 1924.  The 'Union Jack', though not our own, was our only official flag at the time.  Also, the one you have shown only contains 4 provincial coats of arms, which was later changed to the Canadian coat of arms in 1921.

So probably an element of political correctness on the part of the CBC.

Thanks for the reply. I never knew that the Union Jack was the official Canadian flag all the way up to 1924.

If you have high speed internet you may want to think about getting one of the services like Netflix, Hula, etc. Lots of great shows on them. I watch many of the British murder mysteries on it such as MidSomer Murders and Piorot.

I'd like to have a show somewhere near Chicago (or anywhere in Illinois for that matter) since it's my Neighbor State to the South. I'd like to have one in Wisconsin, but it's not very likely that that would ever happen.

Maybe a little, but I get the impression that he's trying to project Detective Murdoch as a pious professional and devout Catholic in the Victorian Era, can't get more straight-laced than that.  Contrast it with the bang-heads-first-ask-questions-later, hard-drinking "bloody bullocks" Brackenreid.  There's another version of Murdoch played by Peter Outerbridge that we watched when we finished the current series.  The current Murdoch with Yannick Bisson is much better.

Yee-haw...one of my other areas of collecting!  Flags.

In the time period that the Murdoch mysteries is set (late 1890's) it was common to see three flags representing Canada...the Union Flag (the official flag), the '4 province' Red Ensign that you illustrate and the '7 province' Red Ensign, with the coat of arms often mounted on a large white circle.  There was really no regulation about the red ensign but it was a common sight. That varied with the time period...in days of imperial excitement, the Union Flag was more common (Boer War period, for example).   The ensign remained the unofficial flag of Canada until replaced by our current flag in 1965.  It was made the official (but legally unofficial) flag of Canada in 1945.  Until that time, the British Union Flag was flown from our Parliament building in Ottawa.

Sorry...one of my passions.  A confused story but fairly Canadian.

And yes...I sure wish there was a Toronto phone show.  Two years ago there was a show in Kingston, but nothing last year.  Has that show ceased to exist?

Well, at least for this year. Don Woodbury was the driving force behind it, and with him in Equador until spring, there will be no show for this year. That came up in a conversation with him last fall.

Too bad I don't have the energy to create the first annual PEI show :)

Bill knows I would have lots of stuff to sell!

In answer to the original question, I'm not sure what it takes to have a show in an area of your choosing if you want it to be officially sanction by TCI or ATCA.  I can only tell you that the Seattle regional show was organized by Bill Guerts, aka Phonesrfun.  He put together the first one that was in Bellevue, WA for the first couple of years.  Later I did some legwork for Bill since I'm in the area and he's on the other side of the state and we came up with the current location which seems to be working well.  So Bill would be the one to talk to about what's involved if you want to organize a show in your home city.

The province of Ontario still has the same type of flag and made it official in 1965, the same year Canada gave up on it and unveiled the Maple Leaf.

Ontario is home to many descendants of the United Empire Loyalists who have historically been a powerful faction in Ontario politics.  It's no accident that our motto is Ut incepit fidelis sic permanet ("Loyal she began, loyal she remains").  So having our own version of the Red Ensign, which includes the Union Jack in the top left corner, is appropriate.

I believe that our next door neighbour Manitoba also has their own version of the Red Ensign.
