Where's the Optrex when it's needed...
;D

The rip-off GPO kiosk is still at the Lockspot Cafe in Ballard. It's missing some panes of glass, has some stickers & graffiti on the light diffuser and the backboard, but is in pretty good shape otherwise. The fourth photo is of the payphone stand & backboard at the 7-Eleven in Ballard (3200 NW 54th St., Seattle).

This out of service WiMacTel/Qwest Millenium phone and the empty enclosures are somewhere at Harborview Medical Center (325 9th Ave., Seattle). The phone was operated by WiMacTel and is currently displaying the "out of service" message on the LCD screen.

Quote from: Westrex on September 08, 2024, 09:10:22 PMUnfortunately, the GTE booth with a Pacific Bell branded phone at 205 W Kincaid St. in Mount Vernon has been removed.

However a GTE booth and AE 120 phone remain (with no Dial tone) at Mountain Loop General Store (32005 Mountain Loop Hwy, Granite Falls, WA). Another booth can be found on S. Lake Stevens Rd. here with a GTE 2200-style US WEST branded phone.

The phone at the Mountain Loop General Store (32005 Mountain Loop Hwy., Granite Falls, WA) still has no dial tone. This phone was originally operated by GTE and then later by Frontier. The phone number for this AE 120C (according to the Payphone Project) was 360/691-9907. I might write a letter to the store owners asking for them to restore service to the phone, since there is no cell service in the area.

I found these phones and enclosures on my little trip to Auburn.

Photos 1-3: Auburn Station - 60 A St. S.W., Auburn

Photos 4-5 (I didn't get too many photos, since there was a sketchy guy nearby and I didn't want to stick around too long): Chevron (Both have No Dial Tone) - 10805 Pacific Hwy. S., Seattle

Photo 6: Jim's Mart - 7500 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S., Seattle

Empty Enclosure: Columbia City Market - 3925 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S., Seattle

Here are 2 dead phones from when I went to Tacoma, Washington today:

Photo 1: ARCO Station - 1101 S Sprague Ave., Tacoma

Photos 2 & 3: "C.J." Johnson Bail Bonds - 620 S 11th St., Tacoma

There is another phone that possibly works that's in a booth at the Rankos' Rexall Drugstore. However, the store was closed when I went, so I'll have to come back another time when they're open. See this video for a look at it, and its number is 253/627-9014. However, the store did have a Bell System-branded box outside of it under the big Rexall sign (Photos 4 & 5).

I love this thread, great documentation. We need one for Oregon!

I am surprised that a Rexall drug store still exists.  I thought they went out of business years ago.

I know of a few in Oregon, but as I live in Washington, it's a bit of a drive to go down there. I have also made other threads for working phones in Washington and payphones across the U.S. and the world.

Here's the ones I know:

Portland Union Station (Working) - 503/227-9413 - See this post and this post

Fred Meyer Fuel Station (I think this phone still works) - 13625 S.E. McLoughlin Blvd., Milwaukie  - See this post

Union 76 Station (No Dial Tone) - See this post

710 N.E. Broadway, Portland (Enclosure Only) - See this post

There are also all of the FuTel operated free-phones which all work (see map below).

You're right that the Rexall chain went out of business many years ago. It seems that the family that has owned the drugstore since the 1930s has never bothered to take the signs down (maybe because they look cool).

Here is another payphone that I found yesterday. It's outside a house at 9030A 14th Ave. N.W. in Seattle and has no dial tone. It's number (according to the label) is 666-4209 however this number never seemed to exist on the Payphone Project.

I looked at the Google street view, and it wasn't there in Aug. 2021.  So it was probably put there by the person that lives there. I suppose one could leave a note on the door asking the owner to call with the story behind it.

Another payphone remnant sits in front of the Mahder Cafe Ethiopian Restaurant. It is located at 2200 S. Jackson St. in Seattle.
