I remember a while back someone asking about them.  I came across this video today with a familiar face explaining the various aspects of the different types of them.

Tim Hunkin is great, as was his colleague the late Rex Garrod, - you want to watch some of the remastered 'The Secret Life of ..." videos on his channel. I still have some of them that I recorded from the TV when originally transmitted in the late '80s/ early '90s. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_Life_of_Machines).
There is of course The Secret Life of the Telephone - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7R9bHJfymjg

I watched the series a few times on The Learning Channel long before discovery turned it into a sideshow.  Mr. Hunkin is an excellent teacher.

I've watched several of Tims videos, LEDs and chains glues, etc. He's a very smart guy who invents some pretty cool things
Him and Rex, we're fun to watch on Secret life of Machines, old and remastered.
