Quote from: Westrex on May 13, 2023, 10:29:47 AMHere are the locations and picture(s) of public telephones left in Seattle that still work (As of May 2023).

1. Woodland Park Zoo: Near Bear Parking Lot exit, attached to bathrooms.

2. University of Washington: Across from Lewis Hall, booth is graffitied, but phone still works.

3. Camp Long: Parking Lot, Qwest booth and Qwest phone, but operated by Wimactel.

(Attached is a picture of the phone in the University District and the Camp Long phone)

The pay phone at Camp Long has been removed, possibly recently since the concrete is a lighter color than the rest. The number of it was 206/932-9606 and it was located at 3449 SW Dawson St. in Seattle.

I found evidence of payphones at Union Station in Seattle, so today I went down there to investigate. These 2 working Bell System/Western Electric phones are in the concourse that can be accessed from the doors at the rear of the lobby (the ones that say "TO CONCOURSE" above them) or from the 4th Ave. S. entrance. Their numbers are 464-9896 & 464-9897 (both 206 area), and if you call them, you might be able to talk to the friendly Sound Transit employee that let me into the locked concourse to see them.

This free phone is at the Verlot Public Service Center (33515 Mountain Loop Hwy., Granite Falls, WA 98252) and replaced a GTE/Frontier payphone (there's a lot of articles surrounding its replacement, just lookup "Verlot payphone" using any search engine). Despite being a GTE 2200 style phone, it has a Bell System/Western Electric coin return. When I used it, the middle column of the dial pad didn't produce tones, making it impossible to dial any call in Washington (the phone is supposed to allow local, emergency, and toll-free calls). I'll go write the forest service or county to fix it.

Quote from: Westrex on September 25, 2023, 07:03:11 PMThere is one working pay phone at the Washington State Fairgrounds. This phone is at the Sip Shop near the Gold Gate. The other pay phone is attached to the Blue Gate restrooms, but does not work, however this one does. Both phones are operated by Wimactel.

The phone at the sip shop has been removed (most likely when the building was repainted), however the phone at the blue gate is now in working order. Its number is 253/848-0302 and is operated by WiMacTel.

This free-phone (formerly a payphone) is at the corner of Pacific Ave. & Oakes Ave. in Everett in front of the Snohomish County Jail. Its number is 360/386-2942 and it seems it can make both local and long-distance calls (only tried a somewhat-local long-distance call though).

The University of Washington payphone is still standing (though missing a piece of plexiglass), and accepts incoming calls for free. The number is 206/545-9737 and still sports USWEST Communications panels and still has the Bell logo.

Here are some working payphones I found on my trip to Bellingham:

Photos 1-3: Zuanich Point Park (Working) - 2600 N. Harbor Loop Dr., Bellingham - 360/734-1573

Notes: The number and address on this phone's instruction card are wrong just like all of the other phones in the park. The correct number is listed above.

Photos 3-6: Zuanich Point Park (Semi-Working) - 1937 Roeder Ave., Bellingham

Notes: This phone would give a blip of dial tone, then start repeating an error message, which is why it is marked as "Semi-Working."

Photos 1-4: Zuanich Point Park (Working) - Gate 8 - 734-1058

Notes: This phone has a really loud and annoying buzzing sound while giving or a dial tone or connecting a call but not when dialing. It does connect calls however.

Photos 5-6: River Rock Tobacco & Fuel (Semi-Working) - 23704 13th Ave. N.E., Arlington - 435-2119

Notes: This phone will just repeat "Error 4" when picked up, however it is still connected and will give a fast busy signal when called.

The U.W. Newspaper did a write-up about this phone nearly a week ago. Apparently, the phone might be replaced in the future due to operating costs, so I guess I'll have to drop some more quarters into this phone.

The U.W. phone is still connected (its number is 206/545-9737) and I dropped a dollar into it to make sure it's still around a little longer. I suppose connecting it to the FuTel network would be a good idea, however it would have to use a standard payphone (Western Electric 1-series, AE 120 series, GTE 2200 style) instead of a Millennium because of Nortel's Millennium Manager software and "phoning home" to a server by the phone.

These 2 Qwest-branded Millennium phones are operated by WiMacTel and are at the South Everett Park & Ride. The phone with the Qwest enclosure and broken handset is on the south end near the bike racks and has the number 425/338-7285. Even though the phone has a broken handset and doesn't ring, the phone still works (see Photo 6). The other fully-intact phone is on the north end and has the number 425/316-0459.

This working payphone and the semi-working phone next to it (gives a blip of dial tone then an "Error 4") are at the Mt. Si Chevron (745 S.W. Mt Si Blvd., North Bend) and are operated by CTI (www.customteleconnect.com). The phone number of the working phone is 702/992-9550 (I don't know why it has a Nevada area code, probably has to do with CTI being headquartered in Nevada or maybe the COCOT info/rate file is messed up). Also, if you call the phone from a cell phone, it will automatically hang up as if it were disconnected, so something strange is going on there.

It appears that there used to be 3 phones at this station (according to the Payphone Project), and their numbers were (all 425 area code): 888-5625, 888-5624, and 831-6297.
