Bought this no idea what it is. I think someone made the base shown behind receiver. Has logo of chicago moulded products corp and AE looking dial.

The early sets had metal cradles, later sets had 'plastic' cradles.
It probably had a 'beehive' base originally. the 'beehive' style was a wall phone with a magneto base.
They are fragile to ship.

edit>> the dial was probably added at the same time as the homemade base plate. Leich also had a stand-alone beehive base , with a cover over where the phone sits.<<edit

Oddly enough, my brother showed me what he acquired recently and it is exactly like the one pictured here with crank .  I will be putting a dial on it and making it work on his line.

This is a Leich Beehive phone.  You are missing the lower part, the "Beehive".

That dial phone is complete. Some of those came with a bakelite sub base that had a ringer, made the phone an inch taller.
The local battery versions and the common battery versions have different induction coils.

Just happened to have one open on my workbench. These are very cool phones.

Much nicer than the Beehives that almost always broke! ..Doug
