Stromberg Carlson (SC) Handset Wiring Detail

This is a "how to" when replacing the headset cord on the SC handset shown below.

I had a SC 1243 which did not have a handset cord. Only 3 conductors but couldn't figure out how to get those conductors and the restraint inside the handset transmitter well.

Fortunately had another 1243 with the original handset cord. This is how SC did it.

The 3 conductor from the restraint to the end of the spade lugs are 1.75" long.

First, the metal center contact ear is removed and the cord restraint attached.

The yellow or orange conductor is attached first. After piling the conductor into the bottom of the well and then fastening the spade lugs to the screw, the space lug is bent down to a 90 degree angle (the crimping side of the conductor is placed upward allowing the spade to be fully bent down 90 degrees against the handset well).

The red and green are then secured the same way.

The metal center contact is then reinstalled and the transmitter installed.

The trick is bending the spade lugs down. Now you know, if you didn't already know.
