Over the weekend my brother texted me pics number 1 and 2 and told me it was at an estate sale I could get it for $30 .

As I was busy buying my Spanish red Gondola phone, I passed.

The next day , Sunday I went to an estate sale and there was the phone my brother had sent me a pic of. Because it was now Sunday, it was now half price.

So after some TLC It now looks like Pic 2

Interesting to note that it is marked "802" on the bottom and 2-549-2 seems to be the date code. It has a Bakelite handset although is the design of the AE plastic Handsets

I thought it was a model 80 is an 80 and 802 the same?

It has a 25 Hz ringer that seems to "tinkle" when ringing from My ATA. I have seen some of the "SL" bells on ebay should I swap it of be happy with it? Is there hope that changing the capacitor may make it ring louder?

How does one configure a manually adjusted set?

You may get some success out of tweakin it...Doug has had some success there.
Me, I would shotgun in a SL ringer, and be done with it.
But that just me. ;)

Paul F has a guide on AE codes here: http://www.paul-f.com/AEcolors.htm#AEcodes

Per that guide this phone is a regular AE 80, the 2 refers to the fact is has a retractile/spring cord on it. Though your stamp is in a slightly different format.

$15 is an excellent deal and it cleaned up beautifully. Nice early set with the handset cord out the back, and since there's no extra mouse hole on the side for a side mount handset cord I'm guessing the shell is original. Does it have metal plungers and just the AECO logo stamped on the cradle or does it have the logo flanked by the Automatic Electric name in text?

NB-802 is the part number used to order a black AE 80. For full details, see the AE catalogs.

Edit: Apparently the chart referenced above needs some further review. AE may have changed the coding and base marking over time.

Yes Metal chrome plungers and Yes only AECO Diamond Logo without "Automatic Electric". It does appear to be all original. Think I may call it good with the 25 hz ringer as it does ring some on an ATA and not sure if a 20hz ringer would be much better on an ATA. I know other AE 20Hz ringers are problematic on ATAs. It might be better for me to get an ATA that I can set ringer frequency on and set it to 25Hz

That's awesome, especially given how nice it looks after cleaning. I have a rear cord beige set from 62 that I suspect has had the housing replaced as it has the logo+text and an extra hole for a later style side mount handset cord. Mine had a party line ringer in it but is marked as a CXX set which means it didn't ship from the factory with a ringer. I managed to find a later style AE single line ringer to put in it on ebay, I believe ericofon might have some AE single line ringers as well. The curse of AE sets does seem to be they either nave no ringer or a party line ringer installed in them. You could also use an external ringer box and just disconnect the internal ringer

That is a nice set that cleaned up really well. The price was very nice as well. You should put it in the January FOTM.
Later tonight I will be posting details regarding a bonus for the 2021  monthly winners.

I think the W40 stamped on bottom refer to frequency of original ringer as does the diagram clearly say it is a 40Hz ringer.

At some point the ringer was swapped for a 25Hz ringer which I have now removed and replaced with a NOS SL ringer.

Ringing is now good from my ATA although not "vibrating the floor" good still a bit weak even after releasing bias tension spring, but louder than it was and acceptable. Added bonus ; I have a ringer loudness adjust that old ringer did not have.
