Hello All! My wife was nice enough to pick up this Stromberg Carlson 1212 for me while she was out on a road trip.

It's a 1212 ABZ, but unfortunately it looks like someone pulled out the straight line ringer assembly and chimes.

Anyway, it has this mother of pearl button on it, and I haven't been able to find what that button is for. Can someone enlighten me?

Thanks!

Looks like it was wired to a buzzer. Someone may have put in both to make the phone work as an intercom?

Ah, interesting! That could explain why I haven't found any other pictures like this one. Thanks pointing out the buzzer... I wasn't sure what I was looking at!

I agree.

That looks like a vintage low voltage buzzer typically used as a doorbell (just buzzes, not the chime type).

Hard to find device these days but spotted this one on eBay that shows the typical application circuitry on the back of the package.

Thank you for these images and info! I guess I'll have to figure out what to do with this one. I do like the look of this little button modification.

I think those buzzers run off a typical US 16VAC 15VA doorbell transformer.
