Janet and I went two a few Flea markets yesterday in our way to Maine. I picked up a real nice GE Fan. Brass Blades and a Bakelite base (bakelite is shiny and I kept getting reflections in it). Fan works perfectly and oscillates like it should. Just a real nice piece of yesteryear.....Doug

Great fan, Doug.  Is there a label on it somewhere?  One of those little metal tags with maybe voltage numbers, etc. on it?  If so can you post a photo of it?

Thanks Doug for the photos.  I thought maybe I could find out some information about it on the fan forum.  I am a "lurking" member of this forum:  http://afca.mywowbb.com/

I've just been reading about fans that I've picked up recently.  I have yet to make a post there.  From what I was reading with the GE fans, the cages that are painted are pre-1950.  Chrome cages began in 1951.  Your fan must be older than 1950.  Was that cage painted?  Maybe that applied to just certain models of GE fans.

Dennis...cage was not painted. I tried looking up the patent 1957237 1965668 but couldn't find anything. I was really amazed to see bakelite on the bottom of a fan. No chips cracks or missing pieces. bakelite is brown and ais in very nice shape with General Electric embossed on it.....Doug
